It’s all in the details! Are you ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work? Imagine being a Costume Specialist at Universal Orlando. Problem solving, superior organizational skills, and possessing the ability to use good judgment under pressure are just some of the key attributes we are looking for in our Costume Specialists.Costume Specialists at Universal Orlando are responsible for:
- Cleaning and maintaining all costume pieces through hand washing, machine washing, spot-cleaning, and sending key items out for dry cleaning.
- Monitoring dry cleaning and repair orders as they come into the department, including checking orders in upon return from vendors and notifying managers of any discrepancies.
- Monitoring inventory for wear and tear, requesting replacements when necessary and needed.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Presetting costumes daily by grouping all costume pieces for each performer, issuing the costumes to the performers.
- Delivering and picking-up costumes as needed to/from various locations, both on property entertainment venues and off-site storage locations.
- Dressing performers as required.
- Assisting in fittings for new and existing performers, observing character sets or shows for costume appearance, and noting and relaying those observations to management.
- Assisting with special event preparation and tear down of costumes.
- Assisting with set up of costumes for new characters or shows by arranging for storage space within the issue area, gathering the relevant pieces, and incorporating new costumes into the current process of issue and cleaning.
- Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Orlando policies, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
To perform the role of a Costume Specialist successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
- High school degree or GED and Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.
- Ability to perform basic costume repairs required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License preferred.
- Ability to read a limited number of two- and three- syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from guests, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the Costume Specialist job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, handles, or controls, reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, and talk or hear; and frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- The individual must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of the Costume Specialist job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals; and occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions (non-weather).
- While performing this job, the noise level in the work environment is loud.
