Utility Measurement and Verification Specialists at Universal Orlando are responsible for:

  • Performing site surveying of mechanical systems, energy management systems, electrical systems, lighting systems, water, gas and building envelope including doors, windows, insulation, roofing, etc.
  • Tracking all data collection and building occupancy and usage.
  • Verifying installation, operations, and performance characteristics of energy efficient equipment. Installing measurement equipment and analyzing measured data, including lighting loggers, power recorders, and other data acquisition systems.
  • Performing engineering calculations for HVAC equipment, motors, controls, compressors, and lighting systems to determine energy savings compared to baseline equipment and or building codes.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing complex electrical control system issues and providing detailed solutions.
  • Analyzing energy performance and reporting the impacts associated with efficiency improvements.
  • Identifying, troubleshooting and creating plans to correct performance issues and providing financial returns on these investments.
  • Monitoring and maintaining Niagara Frameworks web based utility meter database.
  • Compiling monthly, quarterly and annual performance and saving reports.
  • Maintaining all utility meters on UO property; this includes electric, water and gas meters and ensuring meter accuracy, diagnosing, repairing and replacing meters when necessary and adding additional meters when necessary.
  • Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performing other duties assigned.



To perform the role of a Utility Measurement and Verification Specialist successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
  • High school degree or GED required.  Technical certification in HVAC or Electrical or Industrial Control Systems. Associate’s degree (AA) in Mechanical and/or Electrical or equivalent experience required. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and/or Electrical engineering and/or Certified Energy Manager and/or Certified Energy Auditor preferred.  
  • Five to seven years’ experience with electronic DDC/BMS systems or HVAC control technician experience required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License is required to operate company vehicles.
  • Technical certification in HVAC, Electrical, Industrial Control Systems, Niagara AX Framework is preferred. CEM and/or LEED AP preferred.
  • Must have knowledge in current ASHRAE standards. HVAC control background preferred.
  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook and Viso required. Working knowledge of SharePoint preferred and experience with Modbus, Lon, BacNet and Ethernet, IBM Maximo experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. is required.  
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from guests, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the Utility Measurement and Verification Specialist job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly (2/3 or more of time) required to stand, walk, talk or hear, reach with hands and arms, to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; occasionally (up to 1/3 of time) required to sit, taste or smell.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include:  Close Vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); Distance Vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); Color Vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); Depth Perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); Ability to Adjust Focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

  • While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat or cold, direct sunlight, wet, humid conditions (non-weather).
