It takes a talented group of Team Members to run Universal Orlando, and we need a dedicated team to support the thousands of Team Members employed here. Benefits Specialists - Leaves of Absences are responsible for the day to day administration of health and welfare plans, and all leaves of absences.  Benefits Specialists - Leaves of Absences at Universal Orlando are responsible for:

  • Administering health and welfare plans.  Working as a liaison with vendors and Team Members. Helping Team Members resolve any insurance claim issues. Assisting with the communication and documentation of open enrollment.
  • Verifying tuition reimbursement requests while monitoring the tax ceiling.
  • Administering all leaves of absences for disability claims. Responsible for approving disability claims and determine  benefit amount. Processing disability, earnings, and supplemental pay. Handling FMLA requests and monitoring FMLA leave hours. Working with Team Members, Managers, and the HR Field Team to coordinate leaves of absence. 
  • Assisting Team Members with questions – walk-ins and phone calls, providing information regarding group insurance, disabilities, 401(k), tuition reimbursement, COBRA, sick, PTO, personal holiday, vacation and other leaves. Processing benefit enrollment forms – assists Team Members in completion of forms; inputs into HRIS; and makes and maintains benefit files
  • Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Orlando policies, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities. 
  • Performing other duties as assigned.


To perform the role of a Benefits Specialists - Leaves of Absences successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
  • High school degree or GED required. Associate’s degree (AA) is preferred in Human Resources or Business.  Bachelor’s degree is preferred in Human Resources or Business.        
  • Three to five years leaves of absences experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to gather and analyze information skillfully.
  • Ability to handle customer complaints and satisfactorily resolve issues
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from guests, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to sit; frequently required to talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. 
  • The individual must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close Vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
