Job Description Job Description The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. The DOC is seeking highly motivated individuals interested in criminal justice and public safety to join our team. This posting will be used to fill current and future vacancies that may occur over the next four months at correctional facilities throughout the state of Wisconsin. Correctional Officers are responsible for ensuring the security, custody, control, and treatment of persons in our care in DOC facilities. Correctional Officers have the ability to make a positive difference in the lives of others and are an integral part of the criminal justice system. Benefits: Medical, dental and vision insurance Life insurance 457b Retirement savings plan Pension plan Paid time off $2,000 sign on bonus Responsibilities: Supervising Inmates: Monitoring inmate activities, ensuring they obey rules, and ensuring their whereabouts at all times. Enforcing Rules and Maintaining Order: Maintaining security by settling disputes, preventing disturbances, and responding to emergencies. Conducting Searches: Searching inmates and their areas for contraband, including weapons and drugs, and screening visitors and mail. Inspecting Facilities: Inspecting facilities to ensure they meet security and safety standards. Reporting on Inmate Conduct: Reporting rule violations, security breaches, and any unusual behavior. Assisting with Rehabilitation: Participating in programs that support offender rehabilitation and helping inmates prepare for reentry into society. Escorting and Transporting Inmates: Transporting inmates within the facility for various activities, such as work, recreation, or medical appointments. Providing Emergency Assistance: Responding to emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring the safety and security of the facility and its occupants. Maintaining Accurate Records: Keeping detailed records of inmate behavior, incidents, and other relevant information Requirements: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. If an applicant has an active work visa, the details regarding status and timeframe must be disclosed during the selection process. At least 18 years of age High school diploma or equivalent No felony convictions without a pardon No domestic violence convictions Willing to work overtime Meet firearm standards Effective communication skills Ability to problem solve and resolve conflict Plan to attend and meet face-to-face with hiring managers.
