Job Description Job Description SCHEDULE Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Exempt position).Year-round academic calendar with two-week breaks between terms. NATURE & SCOPE Spark Academy is a co-ed, residential treatment program specializing in autism and neurodiversity. We offer a year-round, project-based learning curriculum, in a co-teacher classroom that fosters confidence and a love for education. As an accredited special education school, we are committed to providing individualized support to help students thrive academically and personally. The Special Education (English) Teacher will provide structured and engaging English instruction in a co-taught, cross-curricular, project based learning classroom while supporting students with varying special education needs. This role requires creativity, patience, out of the box thinking and a strong understanding of how to adapt the English curriculum to accommodate students who learn differently than a traditional direct instruction classroom offers. This position will give you the freedom to really have fun teaching again, without the stress and pressures of teaching all curriculum strands to prepare for the end of level tests; there are no high stakes tests given. This means you are free to think more creatively and enjoy teaching. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide engaging, project-based English instruction that fosters a love for reading, writing, and communication. Adapt teaching strategies to support students with level 1 autism and other neurodiverse conditions. Collaborate with the Special Education Coordinator to implement IEP goals and track student progress. Work closely with Residential Coaches, teachers, and therapists to support students' academic and personal development. Create a structured and supportive classroom environment that encourages student participation and success. Support students in developing critical thinking, communication, and literacy skills. Utilize positive behavior management techniques to address student needs and foster a constructive learning atmosphere. Know that relationships with students and colleagues are more important than curriculum standards. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Secondary Education, English, or a related field preferred. Experience in special education, English instruction, or residential treatment is highly desirable. Must be at least 20 years old to apply. Strong proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking fluently). COMPETENCIES Strong understanding of adolescent development and how to engage neurodiverse students in a structured learning environment. Knowledge of special education practices, particularly in supporting high-functioning autism and other neurodiverse behaviors. Ability to provide engaging, adaptable instruction while balancing structure and flexibility. Strong organizational skills to create a structured, literacy-focused curriculum that promotes learning. Even temperament and patience to support students through moments of frustration or emotional escalation. BENEFITS Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance packages.
