Job Description Job Description Job Description Organizational Description DSAL’s mission is to implement the Community Capitals Policing model, which builds on existing community capitals (natural, human, social, economic, built, political and cultural) to create safer, healthier, more vibrant communities with authentic opportunities for all. DSAL, a standalone 501(c)(3) nonprofit, works within the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Youth & Family Services Bureau, alongside sworn Sheriff’s Office personnel and behavioral health clinicians to accomplish this mission. DSAL recreation programs offer no- and low-cost soccer, boxing, fitness, dance and other activities for low-income community members and provide opportunities for sheriff's deputies to interact positively with members of the community. DSAL community development programs endeavor to provide support for community groups, empower residents to engage in the political process, engage in creative placemaking, and make their neighborhoods more vibrant, healthy places to live, work and play. Job Summary The Boxing Program Manager will lead and develop a community-focused boxing program, demonstrating strong leadership, coaching expertise, and a passion for the sport. This role requires a minimum of two years of experience as a boxing program manager or head coach, active registration with USA Boxing, compliance with its regulations, and the ability to promote amateur events. The ideal candidate must be an effective communicator, team player, and critical thinker who can create and adapt curriculum to fit various class and skill levels while fostering relationships with law enforcement, community partners, and residents. The position requires flexibility for evening shifts (Monday–Friday) and involves mentoring athletes while supporting community members beyond boxing-related matters. This position will report directly to the DSAL Athletics Operations Manager with coaching oversight from the DSAL Executive Director. Specific Job Duties Obtain all necessary certifications and licenses within 30 days of hire. Effectively manage classes and facility requirements at DSAL Boxing Gym Monday - Friday, as well as various DSAL facilities if needed Participate in all required DSAL staff meetings as well as meetings involving DSAL boxing. Effectively monitor and record class attendance and wait list management via League Apps. Continue to develop knowledge, skills and new strategies in boxing fundamentals such as footwork, stance, proper technique, body movement, coordination, defensive/offensive maneuvers. Determine participant skill level and oversee sparring sessions conducted in accordance with USA Boxing Association Safety and Standards Regulations, while continually adapting and researching new programming opportunities Perform financial transactions with the sale of merchandise and accurately keep a record of aforementioned sales. Follow all organizational currency handling policies Support and facilitate all boxing events; organization, setup, breakdown of equipment, event needs, and work with others coaches for event success. Oversee administration and performance of all DSAL Boxing coaches, while managing needs and requests to adhere to the program’s pre-approved budget Qualifications for this position include: Possess a minimum of two years of experience as a boxing program manager/head coach Be empathetic, respectful, disciplined, humble and open to receive constructive criticism from peers Be in compliance with all USA Boxing Rules and Regulations and have experience promoting boxing amateur events Have a clean criminal background history, FBI fingerprint background check required Flexibility to work a swing/evening shift, typically Monday through Friday from 12:00 PM to 8:00 or 8:30 PM Be a team player and participate in weekly staff meetings Effectively communicate with the upper management team in a timely manner Be community oriented and able to work with diverse populations Bilingual skills preferred, particularly in Spanish (not required) Adaptability to change and the ability to work under pressure, possessing strong critical thinking abilities Possess organizational skills and the ability to delegate tasks to coaching staff effectively and thrive in a fast-paced environment Possess strong interpersonal skills to act as a liaison between law enforcement, community partners, and local residents Location This position will primarily be based at DSAL Boxing Gym at Hayward Adult School, 22100 Princeton St, Hayward, CA 94541. Team and Staff meetings and or community events at various locations throughout Alameda County also required. Type of Employment The position is an hourly full-time position. Pay range is based on experience and qualifications. Ranges from $21.00 - $30.00/hr. This position includes the following benefits: Full time employees accrue PTO according to the following schedule, up to a maximum of 180 hours: 6.67 hours per month or 10 days = 0 -1 year 10 hours per month or 15 days per year = >1 to 13.33 hours per month or 20 days per year = >5 years Group health insurance plan: DSAL pays 100% of the value of the Kaiser Silver medical/dental plan. Kaiser Gold and Platinum are also available, and the employee pays the difference in price. $50 monthly cell phone stipend to full time employees who use their personal cell phones for DSAL business. $30 monthly computer stipend to full-time employees who use their personal computers for DSAL business. Non-matching 401K to allow employees to save for retirement pre-tax
