Job Description Job Description Job Summary: The Director of Student Engagement and Leadership Development serves as an active member of the Student Affairs team by promoting community development and programming through the Office of Student Engagement. The mission of the Office of Student Engagement is to build a campus community in which all students and student organizations are encouraged and supported in the cultivation of social, cultural, intellectual, service, and leadership programming. Within the Office of Student Engagement, all students will find a place where their voices are heard and they are empowered to become more competent, purposeful, and ethical members of the Harris-Stowe State University community. The Director of Student Engagement and Leadership Development not only serves as a point of contact for all Harris- Stowe State University students but also all student organizations and faculty to help students become engaged and involved on campus. Principle Duties & Responsibilities: Provide leadership to Campus Activities Board, (C.A.B.) which is a student organization charged to plan and implement campus-wide and evening programs, leadership and service initiatives, provide programming that is cultural, educational, recreational, spiritual, service, or of social value. Ensure that student organizations are in compliance with University policies and procedures. Oversee planning and coordination of campus wide signature programming Homecoming, Parent Family, Black History Month, monthly awareness & cultural programming with Office of Student Engagement staff. Develop, coordinate, and assess a comprehensive student activities program of educational, recreational, social, and cultural programs which appeal to a diverse audience at the college and in the community. Represent and advocate for the department within the college administrative and governance structure and promote an environment that is responsive to student needs. Oversee Greek Life. Serve on Campus Committees. Facilitate collaboration, innovation, and creativity among students, faculty, staff, and administration. Recruit and provide leadership for a diverse Student Government. Design and implement leadership development programs/classes to assist student leaders in gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform leadership functions. Develop and manage student clubs and organizations to meet the diverse needs of the college and community. Keep students and staff informed about all programs and activities through campus-wide promotion and publication. Build trusting relationships by acting with integrity, courtesy, and responsibility, even in the face of stress or demanding workplace conditions. Supervise full time Student Engagement Coordinator. Other duties assigned by direct supervisor. Education & Experience Requirements: Master's degree required; in higher education administration, arts administration, public administration, counseling, or related field preferred. Minimum three (3) years in student events, Greek Life and Leadership Development in an educational setting is preferred Strong working knowledge and understanding of best practices for Student Affairs professionals. Understand and implement of Student Development Theory into day-to-day activities with targeted learning outcomes Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusiveness and cultural competence; experience working with underrepresented students. Ability to accomplish tasks and goals by multitasking and balancing skills in teaching, learning, programming planning, and event management. Exemplary and proven organizational, leadership and supervisory skills. Outstanding verbal, writing and presentation skills. Must be able to communicate and interact effectively with students, faculty, staff and all external constituencies. Proficiency in computer skills including MS Word, Excel, databases, electronic communication, the Internet and web-based applications Physical Requirements: Must be capable of handling long periods sitting, typing and operating an computer. Fast paced environment. Demands normal manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity. Some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items. Occasional evening and weekend work.
