Now Hiring: Pre K-12 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Location: Maple Valley, WA Start Date: Beginning of the 2025-26 School Year (Full School Year Contract) Contract Duration: August 2025 - May 2026 Student Age Range: Pre K-12th grade students Caseload: 18 Students spanning from early childhood education to 12th graders About Derby: Slow down in a suburban community with plenty of recreational activities! Explore life size dinosaurs and Rock River Rapids water park. A short car ride will bring you to Wichita, which is full of art, nightlife and sporting events! What Youll Do: Create and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's hearing needs and educational goals. Teach academic subjects and communication skills using strategies adapted to students hearing levels (e.g., auditory-verbal, sign language, cued speech). Support the development of receptive and expressive language , whether through spoken English, American Sign Language (ASL), or other modalities. Work closely with general education teachers, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, interpreters, and parents. Ensure hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM/DM systems, and other assistive listening devices are working properly. Make recommendations for classroom accommodations , such as seating arrangements, captioning, and visual aids. Stay informed on current best practices, laws (like IDEA and ADA), and research in the field. Qualifications: Education: You need a bachelors degree in Deaf Education or a related field. Licensure: You must have a valid teaching license (either in general or special education) and be willing to apply for licensure in Kansas. Add the TOD endorsement to your existing license. Exam: Pass the Praxis exam for "Education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students."
