Physician (MD/DO) - Cardiothoracic Surgery in Portsmouth, VA

We are seeking a Board-Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon to provide locum tenens coverage in Portsmouth, VA. This role offers a balanced combination of clinic, operating room, and inpatient responsibilities along with weekday and weekend call coverage. The practice focuses exclusively on adult patients, delivering a full spectrum of Adult Cardiac and General Thoracic Surgery services. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-supported hospital-based program that utilizes Epic for documentation. Practice Scope & Responsibilities Provide Adult Cardiac Surgery and General Thoracic Surgery services Mix of clinic, operating room, inpatient rounding, and hospital consults Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including cardiology, pulmonology, and critical care services On-call coverage for emergent and urgent cardiothoracic surgical cases after office hours and weekends Perform diagnostic evaluations, surgical interventions, and postoperative care management for adult patients (18) Schedule Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (Clinic/OR) 24-hour call coverage (Weekday evenings and weekends) Weekend call required Required Duties / Procedures Aortic Surgery Procedures (Required): Descending Aortic Aneurysms Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery Procedures (Required): CABG Redo Coronary Revascularization (With or Without Heart Valve Surgery) Arterial Revascularization (Using Internal Mammary Arteries, Radial Artery, Gastroepiploic Artery) Pericardial Window Tube Thoracostomy Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms Thoracic Endoscopy Procedures (Required): Flexible and Rigid Bronchoscopy Thoracotomy Lung Resections and Pneumonectomy Chest Wall Resection and Reconstruction Mediastinal Surgery Vascular Surgery Procedures (Required): Heart Valve Repair/Replacement Surgery Heart Valve Replacement Without Surgery ( CoreValve® System ) Mitral Valve Repair Requirements Board Certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery Fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Surgery Active Virginia Medical License Active DEA license BLS and ACLS (AHA certified) Located along the scenic Elizabeth River, Portsmouth offers a charming waterfront community with easy access to Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and the greater Hampton Roads region.
