First time applicants start at $27.75 hourly and returning applicants are eligible for step increases. This recruitment is open until filled, the first review of applications will be on 3/20/25. Four 40-hr per week seasonal positions in the Public Works Grounds Maintenance Division available. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing State/Federal pre-employment background checks. DEFINITION This is a seasonal 40-hour per week position from April through October. The work schedule will be a 9/80 schedule: Monday - Thursday, 6:30 am - 4:00 pm Every other Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 pm Every other Friday off Schedule details will be worked out with selected applicants. Seasonal Laborers may work up to six months (1040 hours) during the vegetation growing season performing landscape maintenance for parks, streets and surface water facilities beginning mid-April through mid-October. Work is completed in all weather conditions. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties under the supervisory direction of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, Senior Grounds Maintenance Worker, or other full-time maintenance staff. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Essential Functions: Use light and heavy equipment, hand and power tools, and light and heavy vehicles to perform seasonal grounds and landscape maintenance. Perform seasonal maintenance tasks common to the care of grounds, landscape and bioretention facilities including mowing, edging, line trimming, leaf blowing, litter and graffiti removal, mulching, planting, pruning, raking, trimming, weeding and watering of living infrastructure located within parks, public rights-of-way, easements, and other public properties. Perform traffic control activities (flagging, work zone set up and tear down) under direction and in support of seasonal work activities. Load, transport and unload equipment, material and tools to and from jobsites and assist in cleanup of jobsite upon completion of work. Operate City vehicles in a proper and safe manner to transport personnel, materials, and miscellaneous equipment. Marginal Functions: Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications: Valid state-issued driver's license with insurable driving record (successful candidate will need to provide a driving abstract). Must be at least 18 years old. Possess or ability to obtain flagging and traffic control certification. Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and construction tasks Operate light duty vehicles and battery, electric, or fuel powered equipment. Utilize hand and power tools used in performance of duties. Perform semi-skilled tasks without close supervision. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Meet schedules and timelines. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public. Participate and work effectively in an organization committed to advancing principles and practices of equity and anti-racism. Perform physical labor in all weather conditions. Observe defensive driving practices. Positively and effectively interact with diverse individuals to accomplish a common goal.
