Job Requirements

In order to be qualified for this position at the GS-11, you must possess one of the following: A. One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service, leading the investigation of alleged criminal activities to gather evidence and recommend next steps; providing guidance to others on law enforcement practices and procedures; and implementing program plans and associated budgets to support law enforcement operations - OR - B. Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree with a major field of study in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources - OR - C. A combination of specialized experience, as described in A and graduate education as described in B that, when combined, equals 100% of the total requirement. (Please note: only graduate education in excess of the first two years - normally 36 semester hours - may be used in this calculation.) In addition, you must: Possess prior law enforcement experience, as gained by substantial service in a primary law enforcement officer position; or equivalent experience outside the Federal government - AND - Currently hold, or have held within the past 3 years, a full Type I NPS law enforcement commission - OR - be qualified to receive a Type I Commission upon appointment based upon having completed approved NPS training as outlined by policy including Natural Resource Police Training (NRPT), Land Management Police Training Program (LMPT), US Park Police Integrated (USPPI). For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
