Position: Supported Sheltered Cook (Casual) - Ballymena Hours: As and when required Rate of Pay: £12.40 per hour Closing date: 2ndJune 2025 Organisation: Abbeyfield & Wesley Introduction Do you enjoy cooking at home for your family? Do you have empathy with older people and enjoy their company? Abbeyfield & Wesley is pleased to advertise for a Supported Sheltered Cook (Casual) to join our older peoples Supported Living team. The successful candidate will be a key player in the successful running of the House, delivering the excellent service Abbeyfield & Wesley is renowned for. This is a truly fulfilling role within a Housing Association dedicated to encouraging enhanced quality of life, dignity and respect for elderly people within our communities. Key Responsibilities Prepare nutritious home-cooked meals for up to 10 residents Be aware of residents dietary requirements Maintain excellent standards of food safety and hygiene (full training will be given) Encourage a supportive, homely, and secure environment for residents Work in conjunction with the House Manager to prepare meals and ensure health and safety standards are being met Take part in fire safety drills Deliver a high standard of service for all residents Main Duties Prepare and cook meals from the agreed seasonal menu, considering special dietary needs Maintain food safety and hygiene standards, including completion of mandatory training Follow all kitchen cleaning procedures and schedules Adhere to house health and safety requirements Support residents and respond to their queries Represent Abbeyfield & Wesley professionally with visitors, by phone, or with prospective residents Stay calm in emergencies and contact appropriate people, such as medical services or next of kin Reporting Structure You will report directly to the House Manager or the senior in charge of duty in their absence. Essential Criteria Ability to prepare meals for up to 10 people using seasonal menus Empathy and understanding of elderly residents needs Excellent communication skills Desire to encourage dignity, respect, and quality of living for older people Proven ability to work on own initiative Desirable Criteria Food Safety qualification First Aid in the workplace qualification Willingness to pursue relevant qualifications for personal development Additional Information This job description is not exhaustive and may be amended to reflect changing needs.
