Job Description Job Description Wayne Wire is currently seeking an experienced Engineering Manager for our Northwest Michigan headquarters! The Engineering Manager position at Wayne Wire is key part of our management team. Overview: Wayne Wire Cloth Products, Inc., an industry leader in the manufacture of custom filtration products for the aerospace, automotive and commercial industries, seeks an experienced Engineering Manager to lead all activities of the engineering department and staff to design, manufacture, improve equipment/processes, and to provide pricing to customers on new and existing products. The engineering manager supports our 3 manufacturing locations. Must be knowledgeable about production processes, production support processes, outside processes, customer requirements, and customer issues. Effectively resolve issues, manage cost, and help lead and improved APQP. Help develop more efficient processes that reduce labor and are easier for our operators. Must help evaluate current and new production parts for improvements that reduce labor and are more efficient for our operators. Drive the aggressive pursuit of all new available filter business within our capabilities. Have a presence at all 3 sites to help promote and leverage best practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Collects and analyzes data to help identify, prioritize and drive improvements at all 3 sites. Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures. Lead, manage and oversee projects assigned to staff. Provides direction on design and development activities to improve, modify or design new equipment and processes. Oversee the maintenance of files, prints and documents for customer’s products. Consults with management and production to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products. Oversee cost estimate/quoting function for new and existing products. Stays current and advises management of new developments that may affect profit, schedule, costs, and customer relations. Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies that may improve operations, quoting, customer interaction, and develop recommendations accordingly. Establishes and implements long and short-range departmental goals and objectives; monitor effectiveness; effect change required for improvement. As required, provide direction and oversight for tool room and maintenance function. Recommend, support, and implement capital equipment expenditures for production operations. Help develop and manage operating budgets. Maintain a working knowledge of applicable safety policies, regulations and procedures to ensure duties are performed in a safe manner. Meet with customers as required on customer contracts, part new part/business development, and issue resolution; prepare presentations, correspondence and reports. Supervisory Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to direct the Engineering department staff to meet Wayne Wire goals and objectives. Develop and grow the engineering team. Performing staff evaluations on an annual basis to ensure team members are performing to meet the department requirements is an essential responsibility of this role. Travel: Travel from our corporate offices (Kalkaska) to our other manufacturing sites and to customer sites will be required at times to support Wayne Wire’s goals and objectives. Education: Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Competencies: Advanced knowledge of CAD design software – KeyCreator, CATIA, AutoCAD or Solidworks. Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Knowledge of wire mesh fabrication/manufacturing operations including stamping, resistance welding, soldering, silver brazing, and heat treating. Employee development and performance management skills. Ability to lead cross functional teams. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
