Definition: Summer Day Camp Leader has the responsibility for leading activities and assisting with the safety of children in the summer day camp. Principal Duties: • Ability to work with children and coworkers in a mature and responsible manner. • Assist in planning, scheduling, organizing, and implementing activities, field trips, and special camp events on a weekly basis while displaying creativity and energy. • Oversee and give direction to children and volunteer staff. • Work with Recreation Coordinator, Supervisor, Day Camp Director and Assistant Direction in maintaining accurate records such as attendance, accident, and incident reports. • Organize and lead children in daily activities following templates provided. • Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes. Working Environment: Work will be primarily performed in an outdoor environment, with constant exposure to sun, dirt, sand and all types of weather conditions. Must have hearing and vision sufficient to survey the park area and recognize problems with children, dangerous situations and hazards. Work requires bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, climbing, kneeling, carrying and lifting over 50 lbs. Work requires ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Work requires the ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and interruptions. Work will include exposure to noisy and stressful situations. Work entails working alone as well as working closely with others. Qualifications: Ability to work with children, demonstrate basic group management skills, work under minimal supervision, communicate clearly and concisely, establish and maintain effective working relationship with superiors, subordinates and patrons, use good judgement and make sound decision in stressful or emergency situations, accurately complete a variety of forms, logs and reports. Special Qualifications: Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency preferred. Must be at least 16 years of age. Selection process will include Central Regisrty and Colorado Bureau of Investigations background checks as required by Social services regulation 7.712.4. Possession of a valid form of identification, and CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain certification by employment start date.
