Definition: Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties in the maintenance and construction of parks, sports fields, landscaped areas and golf courses. Principal Duties: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: • Change location of cups, move tee markers, and put out flag poles. • Rake and edge sand bunkers. • Clean shop and restrooms. • Plant, water, and maintain trees, shrubs and flowers. • Manually dig to expose irrigation pipe for repair. • Weed ornamental beds. • Place mulch in landscape beds • Remove and replace sod in damaged areas or new construction. • Fill ball washers and repair ball markers. • Maintain sports fields, drag and line ball fields. • Repair sports field equipment such as nets, backstops, dugouts, fencing, etc • Maintain irrigation ditches and canals. • Operate a wide variety of small equipment used in the maintenance of park or golf course areas. • Repair and install commercial landscape and/or golf course irrigation system piping and components. • Participate in a wide variety of assigned maintenance and construction duties on City golf courses. • Repair and maintain various athletic courts including those used for tennis, volleyball, and basketball. • Maintain plantings and grounds, playground equipment, and ditches, or detention sites. • Operate hand mowers, edgers, weed whips, trimmers, and other equipment. • Rake leaves, clean walks, fields, courts, and other facilities. • Load tree or shrub trimmings on truck. • Spade and otherwise prepare ground around plants and shrubs, including mixing and applying fertilizers. • Clean restrooms regularly and perform plumbing repairs as needed. • Pick up rubbish and paper and perform general grounds cleaning. • Drive vehicles as required used to transport materials, tools and equipment. • Install and maintain water sprinkler systems and repair leaks. • Serve as a gate attendant. • Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes. Working Environment: Work is performed outside most of the time, under varying and extreme weather conditions. Work includes exposure to sun, fumes, noise, dust, pollen, gases and oils, solvents and chemicals, including a variety of herbicides and pesticides. Work requires considerable physical effort including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pulling, pushing, walking, and standing for extended periods of time. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body is needed. Work requires ability to read and understand herbicide labels and equipment manuals, and ability to perform written record-keeping. Must be able to work alone or in a group on multiple concurrent tasks with frequent customer contact. The candidate for this position must be able to meet the physical requirements. Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age. Any combination of experience and education equivalent to completion of formal or informal education sufficient to assure the ability to communicate verbally in English at the level required for successful job performance; no specific experience required. Previous experience in landscaping, turf maintenance and/or plant care desirable. Must attend and successfully complete all trainings relevant to the position.
