Job Description Job Description Job Title: Caregiver & Behavior Support Specialist for Young Adult with Autism Location: Olney, MD (In-person) Pay: $30.00 - $32.00 per hour Job Type: Part-Time (with opportunity to transition to Full-Time) Background check will be run on the candidate chosen Position Overview: We are seeking a warm, reliable, and attentive Direct Support Person to support a young adult with autism in both home and community settings. This is a hybrid role that blends caregiving with behavioral support. Ideal candidates will bring a nurturing presence, strong communication skills, and a willingness to implement behavior strategies and structured routines. You will work as part of a small, collaborative team focused on promoting independence, social engagement, and functional life skills. Experience with autism and/or behavioral support is preferred, but we are open to training the right candidate. Schedule: Initial schedule: 4-hour shifts (9am–2pm), Monday to Friday Availability for afternoon, evening, or occasional weekend shifts preferred Supplemental Pay: Job Requirements: Education: High School Diploma (Required) ; background in Psychology, Special Education, or Human Services preferred but not required Experience: Minimum of 2 years in caregiving, direct support, or related roles (Required) Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation Live First Aide & CPR Training Certificate Qualities: Patience, consistency, empathy, and the ability to build trust and rapport Learning Mindset: Willingness to learn behavior support strategies and follow established routines and plans Teamwork: Ability to communicate with and follow guidance from a team of professionals (e.g., BCBA, therapists, family) Key Responsibilities: Provide compassionate, hands-on support in home and community environments Assist with daily routines, including morning transitions, meal preparation, hygiene reminders, and community outings Follow structured schedules and provide step-by-step guidance for tasks using prompts and visual supports Support behavioral goals by implementing strategies (e.g., visual cues, reinforcement, redirection) under the guidance of a supervising clinician Run simple skill-building activities focused on independent living and communication Participate in social outings (e.g., walk in the park, drive-through restaurant visit, job site visit) to help build community engagement Monitor and respect the individual’s preferences, communication style, and sensory needs Collect basic data on progress (training provided) and share updates with the supervising team Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and safety at all times Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience supporting individuals with autism or developmental disabilities Familiarity with behavior management, prompting strategies, or visual supports Willingness to receive training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)-based support techniques Additional Information: This role is best suited for someone who is compassionate, dependable, and flexible—someone who sees caregiving not just as a job, but as an opportunity to make meaningful connections and help a young adult grow toward greater independence.
