THE OPPORTUNITY: Build the Gateway to Robotics The API Platform team’s mission is to design, build, and maintain robust, secure, and highly-reliable APIs and SDKs. You will abstract away low-level robot complexity, making it effortless for internal and external developers to create, scale, and deploy cutting-edge robotics applications on factory floors, in hotel hallways, and across restaurant dining rooms worldwide. As a technical leader, you will own the architecture, design patterns, and implementation of critical backend systems that are the central nervous system for thousands of robots. WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE As a key member of the engineering team, you will: Architect & Build: Design and implement durable, well-versioned REST and gRPC APIs in Go that expose real-time robot capabilities and telemetry. Develop World-Class SDKs: Lead the development of cross-language SDKs (Go, Python, TypeScript) that provide an ergonomic and idiomatic interface for developers. Own System Design & Governance: Define the standards for scalable API services, governance, and versioning, ensuring long-term stability and platform excellence. Champion Observability: Build and maintain best-in-class metrics, tracing, and alerting, and participate in an on-call rotation to uphold exceptional system health. Lead & Collaborate: Partner with robotics, infrastructure, and product teams to translate complex hardware capabilities into clear, usable API contracts. Mentor & Elevate: Guide other engineers through thoughtful code reviews, detailed design documentation, and cross-functional technical leadership. WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR We are seeking a platform engineer who thrives on solving complex problems and building systems for scale. You will thrive in this role if you have: 8 years of experience building production backend systems, with at least 2 years in a staff-level role. Deep expertise in architecting and maintaining public or internal APIs at scale , with a passion for API-first design, versioning, and Protobuf/OpenAPI specifications. Strong proficiency as a backend generalist, with deep experience in Go (or similar languages like Rust, Java, C++) and strong fundamentals in distributed systems. A passion for developer experience —from designing intuitive interfaces to writing stellar documentation. Proven experience operating in cloud-native environments (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform). A strategic mindset, balancing platform stability with product speed and translating ambiguous requirements into crisp, stable interfaces.
