Job Description
Are you a Director of Electrical Engineering with a passion for architecting cutting-edge avionics systems and leading high-performance teams to deliver mission-critical spacecraft hardware? Our client is seeking a Director of Electrical Engineering out of their Redondo Beach facility to lead the development of cutting-edge avionics systems for our next-generation spacecraft. You will architect space vehicle electronics, drive custom PCBA development, and build a high-performing engineering team. This role is ideal for a leader with a passion for aerospace innovation and a deep foundation in spacecraft electrical systems. Key Responsibilities Architect new spacecraft systems, leading all avionics and electrical aspects. Hire, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers. Design, test, and oversee the manufacturing of custom circuit boards. Establish and refine engineering processes to ensure technical excellence and reliability. Collaborate cross-functionally with teams in software, propulsion, GNC, and structures. Set and uphold rigorous technical standards in avionics development. Lead root-cause analyses and system-level troubleshooting. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. 10 years of experience in spacecraft electrical engineering, including system architecture and circuit board design. Proven track record managing and growing technical teams. Deep knowledge of component selection, simulation, layout, testing, and board manufacturing. Familiarity with EEE parts sourcing and screening. Strong communicator with a desire to mentor and improve team performance. U.S. Citizenship or ITAR-compliant status required. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Experience with Altium Designer. Experience developing systems for GEO, GTO, MEO, or beyond-earth environments. Background in designing avionics components such as FPGAs, antennas, star trackers, optics, or motors. Prior work in a fast-paced startup or agile engineering environment.
