Job Description
Department mission To ensure the longevity and proper functioning of all public facilities and equipment, in order to support sustainable development and improve citizens’ quality of life. Responsibilities and goals associated with the position Reporting to the Project Manager – Public Domain, the jobholder carries out various technical tasks related to work execution and to project design and development. The work involves developing plans, specifications and tender forms for construction or supervising the construction of sewage and water supply systems, streets, sidewalks, parking lots, parks, etc. She or he could manage contracts and monitor various civil engineering projects. The jobholder must also monitor work status, budgets and schedules. Specific tasks: Design municipal works (road works, replacement or pipelining of sewer or water main pipes), including basic design as well as preliminary and detailed design. Provide cost estimates of municipal works. Produce tender documents for municipal works. Provide technical drawing support to electrical engineering and landscaping teams, when needed. Review permit requests from the Planning Department, primarily for the modification of driveways, replacement of service connections, installation of fences, pool construction, etc., including certain site verifications. Process applications for special traffic permits. Coordinate and monitor the work of partners (STM, Bell, Hydro-Québec, MTMD, neighboring cities, etc.) Conduct technical verifications for the City’s different departments. The jobholder must hold a college diploma in civil engineering or in any other field considered appropriate, and must have two years of experience applicable to the position. Relevant municipal experience will be considered an asset. The position also requires the following: A good knowledge of AutoCAD A good knowledge of Word and Excel Knowledge of PG Solution will be considered an asset A good knowledge of spoken and written English and French Capabilities and experience in project management and contract negotiations Skills in using job-specific instruments and tools Skills in reading, interpreting and preparing plans, estimates and specifications Skills in written and verbal communication and in preparing clear, concise reports Ability to resolve complex problems related to her or his field of activity Client service orientation Ability to organize and plan her or his work Skills in supervising and evaluating project work carried out under her or his responsibility Excellent interpersonal skills, team spirit, tact and courtesy A valid Class 5 driver’s license
