Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Job Description Job Description Job Description: Fresh Start Family Services is hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to work in a Level 5 Home for highly independent youth with sensory needs, including mild autism, ADHD, and/or intellectual disabilities. Our home serves only two youth at a time, ensuring individualized care and support. We are looking for compassionate, patient, and dedicated professionals to assist in fostering independence, stability, and well-being for youth in our program. Benefits (Full-Time Employees Only): Health Insurance Dental Insurance 401K Retirement Plan Life Insurance Key Responsibilities: Supervision & Direct Care Provide proper supervision and direct support to residents in the home. Use trauma-informed care and culturally responsive behavior management techniques to foster a safe, supportive, and structured environment. Assist in daily living activities, including cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Transportation Community Engagement: Transport residents to school, family visits, appointments, and recreational activities as needed. Behavioral Emotional Support: Support youth with sensory needs, autism, and ADHD in developing coping strategies and independence. Implement individualized support strategies tailored to each resident’s strengths and challenges. After-Care & Transition Support: Provide 60-day post-discharge support for youth placed beyond five business days to ensure a successful transition. Collaboration & Communication: Participate in team meetings and coordinate with other professionals to develop and implement care plans. Communicate effectively with residents, staff, and families to ensure consistent, person-centered care. Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate and timely records of client interactions, progress, and incidents. Follow confidentiality policies, documentation standards, and organizational procedures. Qualifications & Requirements: Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Must be at least 21 years old. One or more years of experience as a foster parent, institutional house parent, or other verifiable experience related to caring for high-needs youth. In lieu of experience, candidates may have 50 hours of relevant training or agree to complete training within one year of hire . CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Valid Wisconsin driver’s license, reliable vehicle, good driving record, and auto insurance. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field. Experience working professionally with clients with autism, ADHD, or other sensory disorders. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training (preferred).
