This is a unique opportunity for a progressive nursing leader to contribute to the strategic direction, operational oversight, and clinical leadership of the home’s nursing department. The Director of Care will play a key role in supporting resident care standards while fostering a positive and engaging workplace culture for healthcare professionals and support staff. What You’ll Be Doing: Lead and participate in the planning, organizing, and directing of nursing and related clinical services in alignment with the organization’s mission, philosophy, policies, and available resources. Ensure compliance with PEI Nursing Acts and Regulations and operational care standards while reviewing and updating internal policies and procedures. Implement and oversee union contracts and collaborate closely with the Executive Director on strategic operational initiatives. Provide leadership to a multi-disciplinary team, managing Nursing Managers, front-line nursing staff, the Recreation Director, Dietitian, Rehabilitation services, and allied health professionals. Support and develop departmental goals and objectives and, in the Executive Director’s absence, share supervisory responsibilities for the Home. Lead personnel management activities including recruitment, scheduling, staff development, and performance evaluation within the nursing department. Oversee the coordination and integration of nursing and allied health services to ensure optimal care and resource utilization. Monitor departmental budgets, participate in financial reviews, and implement corrective actions as necessary. Establish and maintain positive community partnerships and represent the home in public and professional relations activities. Maintain a strong commitment to health, safety, and resident wellness, fostering a healthy, respectful, and violence-free workplace. What We Are Looking For: A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, supplemented with recognized courses in healthcare administration or leadership. A minimum of four years of progressive healthcare management experience, ideally within a long-term care or related healthcare setting. Current registration with the Nurses Association of Prince Edward Island. Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team-building skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and lead diverse teams. Proven experience in managing operational change, implementing new clinical programs, and overseeing unionized environments. Strong understanding of budget management, risk management, and regulatory compliance in a healthcare setting. Commitment to providing a healthy, safe, and compassionate care environment for residents and a supportive workplace for staff. Familiarity with health and safety best practices, emergency preparedness, and quality improvement initiatives in healthcare.
