Summary: JEC Miller, Inc. is looking to hire Mental Health Workers to work in a direct care role providing in the moment supports to the child and their family to help them achieve their goals and maintain safety. The children we support have intellectual or developmental disabilities and are experiencing an increase in mental health or behavioral symptoms that require a staff that is comfortable responding to and redirecting physical aggression (which may include hitting, biting, scratching, etc), verbal aggression, and property destruction. TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED! As a Direct Support Professional, you will get to join individuals in activities like cooking, watching movies, doing crafts, and exploring the outdoors AND get paid to do it! Duties and Responsibilities: Direct Support Professionals are responsible for assisting individuals with their day to day activities. Each individual we support has varying abilities and interests, so responsibilities may vary based on their needs. The individuals we serve require support and encouragement to reach their hopes, dreams, and goals. Most of the individuals require assistance with medication administration and supervision. Many individuals need assistance (or encouragement) with tasks of daily living such as oral hygiene, bathing, hair care, etc. Direct Support Professionals are required to ensure that assigned tasks and other preferred activities are supported throughout their shift and done in a person centered way. Communication with other DSP's and supervisors is a must, as is documenting the events of the day. The ideal Mental Health Worker will be comfortable helping children manage interfering behavior (physical and verbal aggression) and regulate their emotions. Mental Health Workers are responsible for helping the children with their tasks of daily living. The children we work with vary in abilities and staff are required to assist in tasks of daily living such as bathing and toileting as needed. The children we work with also require a staff person that is engaged and willing to participate in activities of the child's choice and be committed to helping them achieve their goals while enjoying their lives. Mental Health Workers are required to work with individuals both at the site and in their family home depending on where the child and family are at during the program. Preferred Qualifications: - Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record. - 21 years of age or older - Ability to pass DHS background study - Education and/or experience with children with IDD and interfering behavior such as hitting, kicking, and biting.
