Job Description

Job Title: CT Scan Technologist Profession: CT Scan Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7 PM - 7:30 AM Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 6 months CT experience preferred License: NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License Certifications: ARRT Certified R.T.(R), American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Must-Have: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body Description: The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques. They produce sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation. They assist with interventional and therapeutic procedures. Responsibilities include performing complex CT procedures. They exercise professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient clinical history for procedures. Information must be documented and scanned into the appropriate systems. They prepare, screen, and review the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with patients or family members, scanning it into the necessary system. Identifying and administering contrast media related to CT exams, as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, is required. Reviewing patient prescriptions to verify the appropriateness of exams is a critical task. If incorrect, they must communicate with the Radiologist and Referring Physician to obtain additional clinical information or a new prescription. They are responsible for calling physicians to clarify prescriptions in accordance with the appropriate CT protocols. Verifying insurance authorized exam scripts and sending exam modification forms for insurance re-verification is necessary. Obtaining outside studies and scheduling them in the system for Radiologists' comparison is required. They provide exam copies to patients and requesting physicians or family members. Evaluation of radiographs using the necessary system ensures radiographs contain proper identification and are of diagnostic value. Using consistent techniques to gather relevant information from medical records and healthcare providers is crucial for preparing scanning protocols. Determining whether patients have been appropriately prepared for procedures is part of the role. They prep patients for scanning, ensuring proper shielding and immobilization. Determining appropriate types and doses of contrast to administer is essential. Providing accurate explanations and instructions at a level the patient can understand is necessary. They address and document patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure when appropriate. Performing venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines is required. Monitoring patients' physical conditions for any adverse reactions during procedures is part of their responsibility. Adherence to scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends, is expected. They must lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand for at least 6 hours a day. Identifying the needs of the patient population served is important, as is modifying and delivering care specific to those needs. This process includes communicating with patients or caregivers at an appropriate developmental or educational level. Adherence to the standards identified in organizational competencies and behaviors is required.
