Kelloholm Primary is situated beside the village of Kirkconnel, just off the A76, three miles from Sanquhar, in an area of Dumfries and Galloway known as Upper Nithsdale, close to the Ayrshire border. It is an area with a strong community which is committed to the school. Local industry includes traditional agriculture and forestry, renewable energy and natural and cultural heritage.
