Job Description
About The Role You will source and develop products for the shops, focussing on unique items that will reflect the history, architecture and collections of the Abbey. You will also source and develop products for special anniversaries, celebrations and exhibitions, and assist with sourcing generic merchandise and books. The role will also enable you to develop and review cohesive range plans, whilst working collaboratively with a supportive and professional team of colleagues.There will be a strong focus on developing the online shop, whilst also analysing sales data, managing stock, prices and margins effectively. Educated to at least A level standard, you will have proven in-depth experience of product development gained in the gift, heritage or museum sectors as well as a creative flair and a good eye for detail. To be successful in the role, you will also possess strong negotiating, financial and organisational skills, with proficient skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Confidence in using Adobe Photoshop is desirable but not essential. Working Hours The full time equivalent hours are 35 hours per week. Annual Holidays The full-time holiday entitlement is 31 days per annum, including recognised public holidays, rising to 33 days per annum in the fifth year of service. Training On-site training will be provided in all aspects of the job. Any further training needs will be assessed through the probation period and in annual appraisals. Pension Scheme and Life Assurance All employees can join a Group Personal Pension plan, where theminimumemployee contribution is 3% and themaximumemployer contribution is 9% (asdeterminedby the level of the employee contribution). You will beauto-enrolledinto our qualifying workplace pension scheme after 3months, ifyou meet the eligibility criteria. All employees are covered by death-in-service life assurance,whether or notthey choose to join the pension scheme. About The Department The principal activity of WAEL is the operation of the Westminster Abbey shops on behalf of the Dean & Chapter. Other activities include catering, which is outsourced to a catering company (currently Benugo). Company profits are usually gift-aided to the Dean & Chapter of Westminster Abbey and the Westmonasterium Trust, and help to support the Abbeys mission. Currently we trade in the main shop at Great West Door, the Cellarium shop next to the restaurant, and online. The shops form an integral part of an Abbey visit, with a wide array of exclusive gifts inspired by the Abbeys links to the monarchy, its role as a living church, and its architecture, interior, collections and music. We work with artists, craftsmen and suppliers to produce unique products with a wide appeal. We also cater to non-Abbey visitors to London with a carefully selected range of souvenirs, books and gifts.
