White Sands National Park protects the world's largest gypsum dune field, a stunning 275-square-mile landscape in southern New Mexico. The park offers unique scenery, outdoor recreation, and a chance to see plants and animals adapted to this special desert environment. It is located 15 miles west of Alamogordo, between Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range. Alamogordo, with a population of about 35,000, sits at the base of the Sacramento Mountains and is just 15 miles from the cool pines of the Lincoln National Forest. The climate is dry, with hot summers over 100°F, mild winters, and about 8 inches of annual rain. The city is a hub with easy access to Cloudcroft, Las Cruces, and El Paso. Local attractions include museums, theaters, historic sites, and nearby state and national parks. ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special prior­ity selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
