Job Title: Registered Nurse - Psychiatry Profession: RN Specialty: Psychiatry Duration: 18 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS certified Must-Have: - Experience in psychiatric nursing - Strong communication and teamwork skills Description: Job description is located in the document library. Schedule details: 5 shifts of 8 hours each from 07:00 to 15:30, unless previously agreed upon changes to schedule. Holidays and every other weekend are expected. Cannot approve scheduled weekends off without coverage found unless previously specified within RDO. Blocked scheduling must be previously agreed upon. Will be trained for charge nurse responsibilities. There is a possibility of floating to a similar unit within the facility. Uniform policy for RNs is navy blue scrubs. Unit is a 25-bed acute inpatient psychiatry unit. Staffing consists of at least 5 staff for 18-25 patients (3 licensed, and 2 other staff which could include a mix of licensed personnel or Mental Health Assistants). Staffing consists of at least 4 staff for 11-17 patients (with 3 licensed). One RN works in a charge nurse role, one RN oversees all admissions for that shift, and one nurse (RN or LPN) administers medications for all patients on the shift. RNs are trained in all 3 positions. There are also 2 float positions. Mental Health Assistants (MHAs) perform various duties such as rounds, taking vitals, passing out trays, and providing patient care. MHAs also facilitate groups and take patient assignments similar to nurses. All staff positions take a patient load and can perform patient groups, rounding, and vital sign checks. Patient ratio can be up to 5:1 but is often less. Patient population includes those with acute psychosis presentations such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, suicidal tendencies, homicidal tendencies, and dual diagnosis. In case of emergent medical issues with patients, call emergency services. For restraints, these are a last resort when all other de-escalation techniques have failed. Nursing and clinical staff handle all restraints on the unit. Security staff are available as backup during crisis situations. Completion of the Naloxone Train the Trainer Course is required.
