Job Description
The Whiteley Homes Trust, the Trust, is a charity that manages Whiteley Village in Surrey. The purpose of the charity is to provide homes for older people of limited means from all over the country.Founded over a hundred years ago in Walton on Thames, Surrey, the Village is in 225 acres of beautiful grounds and is a very special place to live and work. The Community Café is part of the community services we provide, offering a vital social space and facility for residents. You will engage with customers, support daily operations and help create a welcoming environment. This role offers the opportunity to build strong relationships with visitors from the village and surroundingarea. We are seeking a proactive, hands-on supervisor to oversee the daily running of the café and support the Community Café and Shop Manager. A s a supervisor with leadership skills, you will co-ordinate with team members to deliver a welcoming and customer focused service. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced catering environment, takes ownership, and inspires others through example. Benefits of working at Whiteley Village 33 days annual leave (inclusive of Bank Holidays), increasing by one day per full year of service, up to a maximum of 36 days Plus, an extra day per year (Trust day) for William Whiteley's birthday Pension scheme Eye Care vouchers Company Sick pay Blue Light Discount Life Assurance Employee Assistance Programme Free car parking on site Key Responsibilities: Daily Management Act as key holder, responsible for opening and securing the premises (clubhouse, café, cellar) Lead by example in setting up the café and all seating areas for daily service, including lighting, equipment, signage and safety checks Proactively identify and resolve operational issues, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment Ensure float is prepared, tills are operational and cashing up at the end of each day Co-ordinate daily team schedules, organise rotas and adequate cover in response to demand Review event bookings and plan resources accordingly Liaise with suppliers, deliveries and ensure stock is maintained Customer Service Warmly greet customers and assist with their orders Support team members in handling customer queries and resolving concerns with confidence Serve food, beverages and alcohol with professionalism and courtesy Monitor customer satisfaction and implement improvements where needed Handle customer enquiries and resolve any concerns promptly Food Preparation Lead in the preparation of food and drinks following established café menu and high standards Ensure presentation and quality align with expectations set out by the Café and Shop Manager Complete documentation and update records as required Hygiene and Cleanliness Maintain a clean and inviting café space and kitchen environment in line with H & S Regulations Ensure full compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations Promote a culture of accountability and hygiene excellence Cash Handling Manage and operate the till register and process transactions accurately Follow cash handling processes as set out by the Café and Shop Manager Stock Management Monitor stock levels and replenish supplies as necessary Liaise with Café and Shop Manager regarding orders and suppliers Support inventory checks to maintain efficiency and stock control Accept and sign for deliveries Team and Culture Motivate and guide a team, encouraging initiative and pride in their work Foster a positive, inclusive work environment built on respect and professionalism Maintain clear boundaries and effective communication across all interactions Demonstrate integrity, consistency and discretion when handling sensitive information Required Skills & Knowledge Strong leadership and team co-ordination skills Excellent verbal and written communication Understanding of food and beverage preparation and presentation High personal standards of hygiene and appearance Confidence to deliver excellent customer service and good understanding of community engagement Confident in managing operations independently and making decisions in a fast-paced environment Required Experience Minimum 1 year in hospitality, with experience leading or supervising a team Proven ability to manage customer service and food handling in a busy environment Qualifications Good working knowledge of food hygiene principles and best practice Valid UK driving licence (essential)
