Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Cerner experience required CCRN preferred Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. The unit is licensed for 40 beds and is set up in pods of 8. Certified BLS and ACLS are required. Preferred certification is CCRN. The nurse-patient ratio is 2:1. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. Charge nurses do not have a patient assignment. There is a Resource RN who may take a patient assignment. Typically, there is one nurse aide on days. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. Holidays will rotate with core staff. Scrub colors include navy blue for RNs and hunter green for nurse aides. There are no monitor techs; RNs read and interpret their own strips. Intravenous drips, including pressors and antiarrhythmics, are managed by nurses. Vents are also handled by RNs. Hospitalists or intensivists are in-house. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy services are also available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours, either from 0630-1900 or 1830-0700. Floating may occur to telemetry and any emergency department ICU/telemetry holds. Common diagnoses include high-level neuro and cardiac issues, sepsis, and stroke. The unit practices huddle and bedside reporting. Acrylic nails or gel polish are not permitted during the assignment. The hospital has a cancellation policy that allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled during a 13-week assignment.
