PCU RN Job Details Location: Petersburg, VA (23805) – Virginia healthcare jobs Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown Nursing Start Date: November 3, 2025 End Date: January 31, 2026 Duration: 13-week nursing contract Hours per Week: 36 hours Shift: 12-hour night shifts (every other weekend and holiday required) Estimated Weekly Pay: $1880-$2020 Travel Requirement: Must reside at least 50 miles from facility Unit Details: 29 beds (expandable to 37), patient ratios 1:3-5, supported by Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) and Health Unit Coordinators (HUCs) PCU Registered Nurse Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or compact state (required) BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications (required) Minimum 2 years of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Stepdown RN experience (required) Travel nursing experience (preferred) Advanced cardiac rhythm interpretation and cardiac drip management (preferred) Proficiency in critical thinking, communication, time management, electronic documentation, oxygen therapy, medication administration, wound care, vital signs, IV insertion, and NG tube management Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (study guide provided) PCU RN Responsibilities Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans Administer medications and treatments with accuracy and safety Coordinate patient care with interdisciplinary healthcare teams Monitor and respond to changes in patient condition using advanced clinical judgment Float to other Medical-Surgical (MS) and Telemetry units as needed Manage care for patients with complex conditions, including CKD, diabetes (DM), CHF, UTI, GI bleeds, respiratory failure, COPD, pneumonia, and sepsis Utilize telemetry monitors, wound vacs, IV pumps, PCA pumps, and other clinical equipment Provide patient and family education and support throughout the care process Maintain accurate electronic health records and uphold patient safety and privacy standards Experience the best of Virginia nursing jobs in Petersburg, with its beautiful historic districts, scenic parks, and proximity to Richmond and the greater Virginia area.
