Job Description

Job Title: Medical Assistant Profession: Certified Medical Assistant Specialty: Clinic Duration: Not specified Shift: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Previous experience in a clinical setting - Required License: Current BLS Certification - Required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: High School graduate or equivalent (i.e., GED) - Required Graduate of a Medical Assistant program accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting organization (ABHES or CAAHEP) - Required Passed x-ray operator examination or willing to take the exam according to individual clinic needs. Description: The Medical Assistant will manage customer flow throughout the clinic. The role involves assisting providers in the management and treatment of customers. Customers come from diverse backgrounds and various age groups requiring individualized care. The focus of the Medical Assistant is on collaborative, supportive, and delegated tasks. Delegable tasks and competencies are specific to the role and described by the relevant boards of nursing and medical practice. The Medical Assistant will receive direction and collaborate with supervisors and providers to meet defined goals. Communication with the healthcare team related to progress, concerns, and questions is essential. Clinical Care: The Medical Assistant will perform clinical and clerical tasks to assist with customer flow management. Tasks include standard rooming processes, administering immunizations, injections, and medications as directed by the provider. Laboratory specimen collection will also be performed as needed. Depending on the specialty and location, additional duties may include: providing telephone support, facilitating communication between customers and providers, assisting with prescription refills, performing x-ray duties (if qualified), performing phlebotomy, and conducting clinic laboratory tests. Clinic Support: The Medical Assistant may provide support to the clinic such as front desk/check-in support, ordering and stocking supplies, and assistance with prior authorizations. The team member is accountable for demonstrating proficiency in the skills outlined in the Medical Assistant scope of practice. Maintaining skill proficiency and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list is expected. Other duties may be assigned to promote organizational goals. The Medical Assistant will take direction from physicians, providers, supervisors, and managers. Compliance: Understanding and following principles and standards as outlined in the corporate code of conduct is essential. Professional privacy for customers and team members must be protected. Reporting violations or concerns is required through established communication methods. Legal, regulatory, accrediting, and procedural requirements related to responsibilities must be recognized and complied with.
