Job Description
Our client, an established main contracting building business, are seeking an experienced and dynamic Planning Manager to join the and lead the planning tea. Delivering major high-rise residential, student accommodation, and hotel projects valued up to £80 million. You’ll play a key role in leading the planning and programming function across the business — from early tender and pre-construction through to on-site delivery and handover. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking contractor with an exciting pipeline of complex, design-led urban developments across the North West and Yorskshire Key Responsibilities Develop, manage, and maintain detailed project programmes for multiple live and tender-stage projects. Lead the planning process, ensuring clear integration between design, procurement, and construction activities. Prepare and present construction programmes using Asta Powerproject (Primavera P6 experience also considered). Provide robust planning input to tenders, including logistics, phasing, and resource analysis. Work closely with pre-construction and delivery teams to identify risks and opportunities early. Monitor progress against key milestones and report on performance, delays, and mitigation strategies. Liaise with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders to communicate and update on project timelines. Drive consistency and best practice in project planning across the business. Support, coach, and develop junior planners within the team. Requirements: Proven experience as a Planning Manager or Senior Planner within the construction sector, ideally with main contractor experience. Strong track record of planning multi-storey developments, particularly student accommodation, hotel, or apartment schemes. Proficient in Asta Powerproject and/or Primavera P6. Excellent understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and logistics on complex city-centre sites. Confident communicator able to influence and engage at all levels. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail. Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
