Head Guide

A prestigious 5-star Game Lodge in Mpumalanga is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and passionate Head Guide to oversee the guiding team and deliver world-class safari experiences to our guests. The ideal candidate will combine expert wildlife knowledge with leadership skills, excellent hospitality, and safety awareness. Key Responsibilities: Lead and conduct game drives, bush walks, and wildlife safaris with safety, knowledge, and enthusiasm. Supervise, mentor, and schedule junior guides and trainee rangers. Deliver informative, engaging, and memorable experiences to guests. Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, environmental guidelines, and lodge policies. Assist in planning and coordinating guest itineraries and special activities. Maintain and monitor vehicles, equipment, and firearms in excellent condition. Contribute to staff training, performance evaluations, and team development. Collaborate with lodge management to enhance guest satisfaction and operational efficiency. Minimum Requirements: Formal qualification in Nature Conservation / Wildlife Management or equivalent. Minimum 5 years’ experience as a professional game guide, with 2 years in a senior/leadership role preferred. In-depth knowledge of local wildlife, birds, flora, and fauna . Excellent tracking and bushcraft skills . Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and night drives. Valid driver’s license , firearm competency , and first aid certification essential.
