Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Component Obsolescence Manager to join a leading defence engineering organisation and take ownership of the company’s component obsolescence strategy. This role performs the duties of the role and reports to the Head of Component Engineering. Key Responsibilities: Lead and develop the component obsolescence service, shaping and delivering the long-term strategy across a wide range of product areas. Manage the proactive and reactive obsolescence status of thousands of components used in complex system and equipment designs. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing and portfolio groups, to ensure robust and coordinated obsolescence management. Oversee regular and ad hoc reporting on component obsolescence, supported by a team of Component Engineers and supplier relationships. Provide advice, guidance and support on best practice and compliance processes related to obsolescence management. Participate in design reviews and training to embed obsolescence expertise across teams and maintain technical capability. Support and lead international initiatives to define and align best practices in obsolescence management methodologies. The ideal candidate would have: Knowledge and experience of obsolescence management processes, tools and techniques. Experience or understanding of BS 62402:2001 requirements. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, both face-to-face and electronically. Strong ability to write clear and concise engineering documentation. The ideal candidate must have: Eligibility for UK Security Clearance at the minimum level of BPSS. A strong background within engineering or supply chain environments, ideally within electronics or complex systems.
