Job Description

About the Business Our client is a global engineering and manufacturing group with a strong reputation for delivering high-integrity products and services across multiple industries. Operating in over 20 countries, they combine a long heritage with a forward-looking approach, continually investing in innovation, sustainability, and compliance to support long-term growth. They are now seeking a Data Protection specialist to strengthen the company’s global compliance framework, taking ownership of Data Protection while also supporting Anti-Bribery & Corruption and International Sanctions activity. Full training and guidance will be provided in these additional compliance areas. About the Role Reporting to the Head of Compliance, you will play a key role in developing, strengthening, and managing the company’s global compliance framework, with a primary focus on data protection and privacy. This is a broad, hands-on role covering both strategic improvement and day-to-day compliance activity across the group’s international footprint. You’ll review existing frameworks, identify and close gaps, advise stakeholders, and embed best practice through training and communication. Working within a lean global team, you will lead on data protection while also supporting wider compliance areas including anti-bribery, corruption, and international sanctions. You’ll be supported by a Compliance Administrator and work closely with colleagues across engineering, operations, HR, and sales. Key Responsibilities * Lead global data-protection activity across all regions, ensuring compliance with UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and other regional frameworks. * Conduct risk assessments, audits, and reviews to identify and address compliance gaps. * Advise on international data transfers, third-party agreements, and records of processing. * Oversee incident management, SARs, DPIAs, and data-breach investigations. * Provide practical guidance and training to non-specialist colleagues across international sites. * Support anti-bribery and corruption compliance, including third-party due diligence, gifts and hospitality, and conflict-of-interest management. * Provide oversight on international sanctions, working with the Compliance Administrator who manages day-to-day screening. * Contribute to the continuous improvement of the company’s global compliance and ethical business standards. Ideal Candidate * Experience in data protection, information governance, or compliance, ideally within a commercial or industrial setting such as manufacturing, engineering, energy, utilities, logistics, or defence. * Strong understanding of GDPR and international data-protection principles, applied pragmatically in operational environments. * Exposure to wider compliance areas such as anti-bribery, corruption, and sanctions is beneficial – otherwise, a willingness to learn is essential. * Pragmatic, commercially aware, and confident engaging with non-specialist stakeholders. * Organised, proactive, and comfortable working autonomously in a small global team. * Interest in further developing within international compliance. Compensation & Benefits * Salary: up to £55,000 * Holiday: 25 days plus Bank Holidays * Pension: 3% employee / 6% company * Hybrid working: Two days per week in the office, three from home * Flexible benefits: Access to a range of additional options via the company benefits platform Why Apply This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of data protection while contributing to the wider global compliance agenda of a respected international engineering group. You’ll work across multiple jurisdictions, gain exposure to new compliance disciplines, and help shape the ethical standards of a business known for its technical excellence and integrity
