Job Description Job Description Job Summary The employees in this position are under an on-call worker classification and conduct routine procedures in the observation, collection, and sampling of drug and alcohol screens for the Accountability Court programs, and to agencies/customers contracted with the Accountability Court Lab for screening services. Employees in this class work on an as-needed basis with no established or ongoing work schedule. As such, this work requires working in accordance with Rockdale County Accountability Courts drug screen laboratory procedures and guidelines, and attention to detail. Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Coordinator, work is reviewed during and upon completion; depending on the level of complexity of the work assigned, employees in this position are given specific detailed instructions regarding how to accomplish the work. Essential Functions These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position. Observe collections of and record data from urine, breath, saliva, and dermal patch specimens. Electronically files and distributes. Performs routine client check-in; collections, and receives credit card and cash payments in accordance with the front desk policy and procedures. Establishes and maintains positive, professional relations with clients, customers, and vendors when communicating via email, phone, and in person. Assists Lab technician with updating and maintaining the Laboratory Information System, Case Management System, and Donor Call-in System. Assists Lab Technician with following up on internal and external customers inquiries and/or concerns in a professional and timely manner. Assists Lab Technician with processing specimens using laboratory equipment as needed, and when directed. Works with all lab personnel; lab assistants, technicians, and Accountability Court Coordinators throughout the day regarding collections, concerns, and training. May be called upon to testify in court cases via subpoena on laboratory collection and processing policies and/or procedures. Maintains and disposes of specimens in accordance with lab policy. Additional Duties: The employee in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must possess and demonstrate a basic working knowledge of health and safety practices as they relate to a laboratory environment, computer applications, and office technology. Must possess and demonstrate basic learning skills. Must possess and demonstrate intermediate to advanced computer skills. Must possess and demonstrate the ability to execute the job duties in an effective and efficient manner. Must possess and demonstrate the ability to maintain an effective working relationship with associates, clients, co-workers, and the general public, sharp interpersonal skills. Basic knowledge of the intoximeter FST tool as well as the Clinical Chemistry analyzer used in the specimen collection process. Ability to critically analyze system operations, production, workflow, and work simplification. Ability to communicate effectively when speaking, writing, and listening. Ability to demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.; skilled in problem-solving. Ability to be a self-motivated person who can willingly accept guidance and direction from supervisors. Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers to handle or feel objects, balance, reach with hands and arms; the ability to hear, talk, have visual acuity, perform complete repetitive motions, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in an on-call capacity, on an as-needed basis with no established or ongoing work schedule. Working Conditions Work is typically performed in a laboratory environment with controlled temperatures and may involve confined spaces. Employees may be exposed to dusty, dirty, greasy areas, loud noises, exposure to machinery and its moving parts, or exposure to smoke, fumes, irritating chemicals or toxic odors. Proper protective equipment must be worn. Minimum Qualifications 1) High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 2) Six (6) months experience in a laboratory or related medical field. 3) Valid State of Georgia driver’s license. Preference 4) Six (6) months or more working experience specifically with clients with mental health and behavioral disorders including substance abuse As Needed Monday-Friday 8:30 am-5 pm As needed Weekends and holidays 8:00 am-12:00 pm Must Commit to one (1) shift per month Schedule subject to change
