Job Description
McBride Sport are delighted to be supporting the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation as they look to appoint a new Chair. Following the merger of the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and the Yorkshire Cricket Board, the formation of a single, unified charitable body represents a significant strategic evolution for cricket in Yorkshire. This new organisation combines responsibility for grassroots recreational cricket across the county; and a charitable mission to use cricket as a force for social good in Yorkshire’s communities. This presents a great opportunity to maximise our impact and as such, the appointment of a Chair of the Trustees Board is a critical step. Working with the Managing Director and his team, this leader will help define the tone, strategic direction, governance culture, and public presence of the Foundation. This is a unique and high-impact leadership opportunity at the heart of one of the most passionate and diverse cricketing communities in the world. Yorkshire represents the most significant cricket landscape (in terms of size and population) in the ECB’s (England & Wales Cricket Board) structure – with a long history, a dynamic present, and a future full of potential. As Chair, you will help guide the renewed Foundation through its critical early years, helping to define its purpose, build credibility, and oversee the delivery of meaningful, inclusive outcomes for people and communities across Yorkshire. You’ll bring vision, governance expertise, and a commitment to transparency and progress as the Foundation seeks to promote participation, well-being, enjoyment and cohesion through cricket. The role of Chair is a non-executive position. Working alongside the Board, the Foundation’s staff, and stakeholders across the game and the region, as Chair, your role will be to provide strategic leadership to the Foundation and ensure that it fulfils its mission, acts with integrity, and makes a measurable difference across Yorkshire. You will bring: A close affinity with Yorkshire – personal, professional, or cultural A personal interest in cricket and a belief in sport’s power to drive positive change Experience of chairing or serving on a charity board, with strong understanding of governance and the role of a non-executive leader A track record of organisational change, transformation, or strategy development The ability to be a visible and trusted ambassador, with strong communication and stakeholder skills A profound understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and to building an open and welcoming organisation that reaches out across Yorkshire and beyond. We are seeking a Chair who can bring vision, credibility, and leadership to this important role – someone with the personal presence to influence, the governance expertise to lead effectively, and the values to unite. This is an unremunerated, voluntary position.
