Job Title – Volunteer Coordinator FLSA Classification – Non-exempt Salary Grade – $23.75 at 20 hours per week Benefits – Paid time off and sick leave prorated by FTE. 403b with a 4% match after 90 days of employment, 11.5 Holidays. Discounts on Preschool, After School, and Summer Camp. EAP program. Fitness center on site. Reports to – Marketing & Outreach Manager and Director of Development & Marketing Worksite – 2617 NW Savier St., Portland, Oregon (Non-ADA Accessible worksite but accommodations can be made as requested or needed) Schedule – This is a temporary hybrid position due to construction. Currently 2 days on-site (with the expectation of being on-site for events and meetings when needed) and 3 days remote - with changes possible after 7/1/26. Four hours per day with flexibility required. Some evening and weekend hours with prior notice. Supervision – This position may supervise volunteers and interns, but no supervision of other staff is required. This position is union-eligible and is represented by ILWU Local 5. Date – Oct 30, 2025 Job Description – Summary The Volunteer Coordinator oversees the daily coordination and administration of the volunteer program at Friendly House. The coordinator will recruit, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers throughout the organization. The coordinator will maintain volunteer files and sign-ups using VolunteerHub, and attend fundraising, community, and recruitment events as needed. Essential Functions Recruitment Recruit volunteers via multiple platforms including online, phone, email, and in person. Schedule, conduct, and supervise background screening, orientation, and training sessions for volunteers. Attend outreach opportunities such as volunteer fairs, business expos, and other community events. Strive to increase the diversity of our volunteers to ensure that they are representative of the communities we serve, including LGBTQ, Black, Indigenous, and Other People of Color, disabled people, older adults, etc. Volunteer Stewardshi p Provide ongoing support and check-ins for Friendly House volunteers. Cultivate connections between volunteers and Friendly House. Responsible for volunteer appreciation gestures throughout the year, including (in conjunction with Marketing and Fundraising) a lead role in organizing our annual “Friendlies” celebration. Manage volunteers for events as needed. Administration Oversee administrative tasks of the volunteer program including data tracking and collection, database development and management, reporting, and more. Supervise and monitor progress towards the goals of the annual volunteer program operating plan. Advise and implement policies, procedures, and practices to promote greater efficiency, utilization, and retention of volunteers. Training/Staff Support Help staff identify areas where volunteers can be effectively utilized. Work with staff to create volunteer job descriptions, orientations, and onboarding plans. Provide training for effectively working with volunteers. Other Support Friendly House’s mission of building community. Other duties as assigned. Seek opportunities to engage individuals and groups from various settings including businesses, schools, the general public, donors, and potential supporters. Possess exceptional organizational, time management, and communication skills. Be a creative thinker who can be flexible and innovative in working with different groups. Qualifications Must be comfortable and confident in working with diverse groups of people including houseless community members, older adults, and youth. Two years of nonprofit volunteer coordination experience, community outreach, or other relevant experience. Computer literate. Proficient with MS 365 and virtual meeting platforms. Experience with VolunteerHub or other volunteer management software is a plus. Successful completion of a criminal background check (ORCHARDS) and motor vehicle report (MVR). Requirements: Physical Requirements Employee must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time (up to 30-50%), with the ability to move and traverse the office and work environment. Use hands/fingers to handle or feel. Operate the computer and other office equipment. Ascend stairs or walk on uneven terrain. May need to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend. The ability to see or observe detail at close range. May lift or move items up to 30lbs. May be exposed to smells, cold/heat, and outdoor environments.
