Job Description Job Description Santa Fe Animal Shelter100 Caja del Rio Road, Santa Fe, NM • 505-983-4309 Effective Date: September 12, 2025 Job Title: Animal Care Technician Manager (ACTM) Work Location: Santa Fe Animal Shelter Main Campus, 100 Caja del Rio Road, Santa Fe NM 87507 Department: Animal Care - 23 Reports to: Director of Shelter Operations FSLA Classification: X Full-time Part-time X Exempt o Non-Exempt Job Summary: The ACTM is responsible for the interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training and supervision of all Animal Care Technicians. The ACTM ensures that all Animal Care Techs adhere to SFAS policies and protocols, that the animals' basic needs are met, that all animal care equipment is in in good functioning condition, and that the buildings, grounds and dog parks are clean and orderly. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: · Oversees the training of Animal Care Technicians in all aspects of job responsibilities to include but not limited to cleaning of animal living spaces, general janitorial tasks, maintenance of public dog parks/staff use only yards, and feeding of animals. · Manages scheduling of the team to ensure adequate personnel daily. · Oversees and coordinates training requirements for new team members, interacting with other department leadership as needed. · Coordinates with the HR Manager and/or the Director of Shelter Operations to interview and hire new team members. · Coordinates Animal Care Tech support with the Director of Admissions and Community Outreach to aid the Compassion Services program with communal cremations and cleaning of the freezers as needed. · Participates in the development, oversight and implementation of protocols for safe and humane animal handling and housing by the Animal Care Team. · Provides support for the transfer process including but not limited to the intake procedure/loading/unloading/cleaning vehicles/equipment. · Regularly evaluates the condition of the buildings and equipment to ensure good condition and working order, immediately reporting any needs to the appropriate department. · Works with the Director of Shelter Operations to develop and implement annual budgets and monitor expenditures throughout the year to ensure the department stays within budget. · Oversees animal care supply ordering and ensures that all needed supplies are available and in good working order at all times. · Demonstrates professionalism at all times promoting a safe, positive, professional work environment with customers, volunteers and co-workers. · Administer conflict resolution in the workplace and foster a healthy team environment. · Works with the HR Manager & Office Administrator and/or the Director of Shelter Operations to administer timely reviews and progressive disciplinary action for poor job performance or policy violations. · Assists in problem solving issues related to the housing and care of shelter animals. · Regularly communicates with other department heads as needed to ensure good representation on the Animal Care Technicians to the shelter as a whole, including attending monthly Heads meetings. · Regularly communicates behavioral or medical concerns about particular animals in our care to the proper staff member, including entering appropriate notes into Chameleon. · Maintains and oversees compliance with all SFAS policies and procedures. · Familiarity with the SFAS operational policies and procedures, including the personnel manual. Job Requirements: · Regular attendance as scheduled, on time and ready to work. · Schedule flexibility. · Ability to manage competing priorities and duties, and effective time management. · Professional communication skills including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers/staff/patrons/volunteers. · Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given and prescribed routines. · Ability to use chemicals including but not limited to bleach, quaternary ammonium cleaning solutions (chemical used to kill bacteria, viruses and mold), stabilized hydrogen peroxide. · Safe handling of animals including but not limited to cats/dogs/small mammals/rodents/rabbits/poultry/reptiles. · Language Requirement: This position requires proficiency in both English and Spanish. Applicants must be able to read, write, and speak both languages fluently to effectively communicate with staff, clients, and community members. · Purpose: Bilingual skills are essential to support our diverse workforce and community, ensuring that information, services, and communications are accessible in both languages. Physical Requirements: · Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions. · Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. · Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly with co- workers/volunteers/customers. · Walking, bending and twisting for as much as 8 to 10 hours per day. · Must be able to be on your feet up to 4 hours at a time 8 to 10 hours per day. · Must be able to tolerate odor, noise, allergens and cleaning chemicals.
