Job Description Job Description Position Summary We are looking for a bright energetic individual who can contribute to the operation of our oyster processing plant and who is ready to start training to become a leader in our plant. The Supervisor’s Assistant supports the Plant Supervisor in overseeing daily oyster processing operations, ensuring product quality, workplace safety, and compliance with industry regulations. This role assists in coordinating staff, monitoring production, and maintaining smooth workflow to meet customer orders and deadlines. Key Responsibilities 1. Production Support & Coordination - Assist the Supervisor with day-to-day plant operations, including oyster receiving, grading, shucking, packing, and shipping. - Monitor workflow to ensure processing targets are met efficiently. - Coordinate with crew leads to assign daily tasks and adjust staffing as needed. 2. Quality Control & Compliance - Ensure oysters are processed according to HACCP, ISSC, and FDA guidelines. - Help maintain records for product tracking, lot identification, and temperature logs. - Report any quality or safety concerns to the Supervisor immediately. 3. Equipment & Facility Assistance - Support equipment setup, cleaning, and maintenance schedules. - Monitor supplies and assist in ordering materials when stock is low. - Ensure plant areas remain clean, organized, and safe. 4. Staff Support & Training - Help train new employees on processing techniques, sanitation procedures, and safety rules. - Provide guidance and support to staff during high-volume periods. 5. Administrative Duties - Assist with documentation, production reports, and shift logs. - Help communicate daily production updates. 6. Other Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities as needed Qualifications · Required: - Strong organizational and communication skills. - Computer skills required. - Ability to work in a cold, wet environment and lift 50 lbs. repetitively. - Basic knowledge of sanitation and food safety standards. · Preferred: - Experience in seafood environment preferred. - HACCP certification and knowledge of sanitation and food safety standards or willingness to obtain. - Leadership or team coordination experience. Work Environment - Handling live and processed shellfish. - Cold, damp and muddy conditions typical of oyster processing facilities. - Repetitive motions such as bending, lifting, and sorting. - Standing for extended periods of time and regularly achieving 10k steps per day. - The facility operates in a multilingual environment, requiring effective communication across diverse language groups and ethnic backgrounds. We also work in conjunction with different groups of people including truck drivers, boat captains and deckhands, and buyers from larger companies and various sizes of restaurants. We are very accustomed to working with men and women all the way from rough around the edges to very professional. - Schedule includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime. Our business starts operating most mornings at 4am and we regularly work 6 days a week from mid October until Memorial Day weekend. Benefits - Full time – Typically 32 hours per week with overtime available regularly. We require early morning and weekend work. - Hourly pay plus overtime - Employee Health Insurance plan offered after 90 days employment - On-the-job training working with another manager for 6 months - Paid time off available after 90 days of employment with up to 80 hours a week earned after 3 years of employment - Paid holidays after 90 days – Jan 1, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.
