Job Description

Job Title: Business Services Manager Relocating to the Isle of Skye: A Lifestyle and Leadership Opportunity Are you considering a move that aligns your professional ambitions with a more balanced, meaningful lifestyle? The Isle of Skye offers a rare opportunity to do just that. Whether you're drawn by the island’s natural beauty or the chance to lead a respected accountancy firm, this role combines career progression with personal renewal. Your new company Donald Rankin Business Services is a well-established accountancy practice with over four decades of trusted service on the Isle of Skye. The firm supports more than 1,400 small to medium-sized businesses, with turnovers of up to £3-4 million, across sectors such as tourism, hospitality, renewables, and the creative industries. Known for its personal approach and deep local knowledge, the firm is entering a period of transition as the current owner plans retirement. This creates a unique opportunity for a qualified accountant or tax professional to step into a leadership role with succession potential. Your new role This is a permanent, full-time position with flexibility to tailor responsibilities based on your strengths and interests. You may choose to focus on general practice – preparing annual accounts, managing client relationships, and supporting the transition to Making Tax Digital – or specialise in taxation, offering planning, compliance, and advisory services. The role offers autonomy, variety, and the chance to make a tangible impact on the local business community. For those with leadership aspirations, there is a clear pathway to take the helm of the firm and potentially acquire the business. What you'll need to succeed We’re looking for a professionally qualified accountant (CA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent) with strong experience in either general practice or taxation. You’ll be comfortable working independently, managing a varied client portfolio, and contributing to operational improvements. Strong communication skills, a proactive mindset, and an interest in digital transformation will be key. Crucially, you’ll be open to relocating to the Isle of Skye and working on-site, embracing the unique rhythm of island life. What you'll get in return You’ll receive a competitive salary ranging from £60,000 to £90,000 depending on experience, along with the opportunity to take on a career-defining leadership role. The firm offers a supportive transition, with long-serving staff and remote assistance from an experienced accountant. Beyond the professional rewards, you’ll enjoy a lifestyle that includes outdoor activities, a vibrant arts scene, and a close-knit community. Housing options range from traditional croft cottages to modern eco-homes, many with land and stunning views. What you need to do now If you’re ready to explore a role that offers both strategic impact and lifestyle alignment, we’d welcome a conversation. Whether you’re seeking ownership potential or a stable client management role, this opportunity allows you to shape your future while living in one of Scotland’s most inspiring locations.
