Join Wodonga Council’s Parks and Gardens team and help keep our city’s trees healthy, safe, and looking their best. As an Arborist Assistant, you’ll be part of a friendly, hands-on crew that looks after Wodonga’s parks, reserves, and streetscapes. Key Accountabilities Tree care and pruning: Work alongside qualified arborists to prune, shape, and maintain trees across the city. The focus is on keeping branches clear of roads, footpaths, and powerlines while supporting healthy tree growth and presentation.Tree removal and site cleanup: Take part in removing damaged or hazardous trees and clearing debris after storms. This hands-on work helps ensure Wodonga’s outdoor spaces remain safe, accessible, and well-presented.Equipment operation and maintenance: Get experience with tools and machinery such as pole saws, stump grinders, chippers, and elevated work platforms. Safe operation, maintenance checks, and care of equipment are part of the daily routine.Safety and traffic management: Contribute to a safe work environment by setting up traffic and pedestrian controls, following established procedures, and helping maintain a strong safety culture within the team.Teamwork and learning on the job: Be part of a supportive crew that looks out for one another. Key Selection Criteria Our ideal candidate will be able to show us the following: Current Driver’s Licence and White Card (Construction Induction Training) Basic experience in identifying trees and assessing general tree health, structure, and potential safety risks.Ability to use basic IT systems and mobile devices to complete work orders, record information, and communicate with team members.Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, work independently when required, and contribute effectively within a team environment.Awareness of workplace health and safety requirements, with a commitment to working safely and following established procedures and protocols.
