Job Description

Job Title: Occupational Therapist Profession: Clinical Specialty: Contract Duration: 9 months Shift: Monday - Friday Hours per Shift: 9 AM - 5 PM Experience: 2 to 3 years in acute hospital setting License: NYS active Occupational Therapy licensure Certifications: National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) preferred Must-Have: Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy Description: The staff Occupational Therapist is responsible for evaluating and treating patients and facilitating rehabilitation and independence. S/he develops and designs treatment plans for physically, mentally, and/or emotionally disabled patients. The Occupational Therapist enables, enhances, and improves patients' ability to gain independence in daily living and working environments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and conduct occupational therapy programs in hospital settings to help rehabilitate individuals impaired due to illness, injury, or psychological or developmental problems. Evaluate and establish patients' physical and mental learning abilities and analyze medical data to determine realistic attainable rehabilitation goals within the scope of the patient's disabilities. Select educational, recreational, and social activities that help individuals learn work and life-management skills based on their mental and physical capabilities. Evaluate patients' progress and prepare reports detailing their progress. Document therapy activities and maintain necessary records in patients' files. Assist in the evaluations and rehabilitation of assigned patients’ medical or psychiatric conditions by collaborating with other disciplines. Train and educate caregivers on how to meet the needs of patients during and after therapy. Recommend changes in patients' work or living environments consistent with their needs and capabilities. Develop and participate in health promotion programs, group activities, or discussions to promote client health, facilitate social adjustment, alleviate stress, and prevent physical or mental disability. Consult with the rehabilitation team to select activity programs and coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities based on psychological, physical, or vocational needs. Plan and implement programs and social activities to help patients learn work and school skills and adjust to handicaps. Attend clinics on a biweekly basis to assist physicians with evaluation and treatment of patients. Correspond with insurance companies to gain approval for adaptive equipment. Perform other related duties as assigned.
